THOUGHTS ON SATURDAY AND MEERCATS

First off lets talk about Saturday. If their is one thing I have learned about betting on games is that you are going to have days like Saturday. Everything goes wrong, your teams turnover the ball as if they bet on their opposition and all of your close calls are losers. Now when this happens, you have a few options: the option you choose will play an important roll in whether you are a winner or loser at years end. After all, it is easy to make good decisions when you are winning but the sign of a successful gambler is his behavior when things are bad. Most losers will want to "get even NOW!! " I call this the Hawaii syndrome. Guys lose all day and then try and triple up by playing Hawaii University. They don't care who they are playing but this is the last game of the night, most of the time. The second most common thing said at a sports bar after 10pm, behind "I should have asked for that girls number," is "every team that goes to Hawaii is partying and doesn't care about the game!" So they bet Hawaii and hope for the best. This is a bad idea. If things are going bad there is very little chance it will turn around in the Hawaii game. The better option is to understand that "it is gambling" and take your lumps and get them tomorrow. Those close games will even out and if you know what you are doing ( like me). You can have the confidence in knowing that you are going to have more good days than bad and that the only important # is the wins and losses at the end of the season.

I have become addicted to the show Meercat Manor. This is a show where these people go around in some desert following the every move of these little animals that look like squirrels on steroids. They give them names and if you watch you can become attached to these little things. Well if Saturday wasn't bad enough, the head of the Meercat Manor a girl named "flower" was bitten by a king cobra that was trying to eat her new born baby meercats !!! Flower went to try and save them and the damn snake bit her in the head and killed her! So if you lost on Saturday remember, it could be worse. At least you aren't asked to protect your kids from a giant snake while living in an "Africa Hot" desert. That's food for thought.

We have ATLANTA, MINN,SAN DIEGO AND TAMPA on Sunday. I will let you know how it went next time.

LATE SEPTEMBER EBB AND FLOW

I am a firm believer in the powers of the universe and that in life sometimes things will go well and others not so good. Along with decisions we make, the powers around us will help dictate our success. The first few weeks of the season I have been releasing the teams that for one reason or another have been grasping defeat from the jaws of victory. They were doing this by turning the ball over and giving up long special team plays. Don't get me wrong, they were the better team that day but it would be like showing up at a Nascar race and having the best car on the track but forgetting the gas. You have to do the little things correctly to win. I released Syracuse over Illinois in week 3, they lose by 40 then turn around the next week and beat Louisville, I release Duke over Uconn they throw 4 ints and then turn around and beat N'westrn. Well the flow of the universe is beginning to turn and last week we showed a profit and if you add in the Elite selections we had a very nice week. We WILL be into profit by the end of Sept. but it has taken longer than normal. For the most part, guys can see what is going on and are patient. I do feel sorry for the guy that just signed up and had to go down before we go up and may quit. It is hard to help him understand that it is a bad idea to only play the losing weeks and not be around for the great ones. On a side note, I am STILL beating the other 3 services that I judge myself against including a guy that was featured in the Wall Street Journal that dropped off a 0-3 last week in selections and 2-7 in opinions. That is a bad week. !! We are going the right direction now and it is a great time to get signed up.

Unfortunately, as the flow of the selections is getting a lot better, the record for my 5 year old daughters soccer team is flowing in the wrong direction. We don't keep score, but if we did, we had won the first 2 games. Last Saturday was black Saturday and then followed by blacker Sunday. The girls decided to integrate gymnastics into the game. I had trouble telling them that somersaults were not ok because they did do some GREAT flips. Toes were pointed and it really seemed to make them happy. Having fun is our # 1 goal as a squad and it is tough to balance fun with scoring goals. Unfortunately, the other team didn't see the value in gymnastics and scored each time we did our best Mary Lou Rheton impression. Oh well, we will get them this week in both soccer and the football games. One is coming a lot easier than the other these days. Look for a big week with the picks.

Week 2 - Coaching

Well, some of you might think this weeks blog would be about the coaching in the games this week. Not quite. I am talking about the coaching of my kids. I feel like Chris Angel Mindfreak aka "The Devil" has come and taken over my life. I declared in early June I would NOT be coaching any of my kids sports. Well, I looked up Sunday after a bad day of picking games and found myself trying to get a 5 year old pink cheetah girl soccer player to stop crying. After a good Saturday betting on games, Sunday had not been that good. I wanted to cry myself but it is hard to start crying when a 5 year old is crying AT YOU. I do think the coaching is a good compliment to the handicapping because win, lose or draw these girls don't care. Helps with perspective. Week 2 was a good week for the public. Public bettor will most weeks lose their money. My clients and I didn't do that bad overall. Nothing a 10-3 week won't cure. I am very confident about this season, my winners have been easy and the losers have had a lot of turnovers. I have been asked to be a regular feature on a "picks" show in Seattle, Washington. I don't like the rain and I don't drink coffee. I hope they know what a hillbilly is and like mobile home park humor otherwise it may be a rainy segment.
