Its been a month!!!!

Has it been a month since my last entry? Wow,that was quick. I guess everything is faster when you get older.
As you might imagine,it has been a very busy month. We wrapped up little league football (lost in the semis) and I have been to vegas twice. For those of you that watch my tv show, you know I spent part of the month on pain medication for an unfortunate skiing accident over thanksgiving. See youtube/thefatjack for video of the ski jump. Fact is, I would have made the jump ok if not for the rental bindings on my skis! When I rented them I forgot to tell them I might be doing some extreme jumping over the next couple of days. Oh well. I'm feeling better and not addicted to pain meds. There was a major prescription meds bust in norman oklahoma, they arrested 33 people and I am sure some of you wondered ,at least for a second, if I was one of the 33. Happy to report , it wasn't me and I'm doing much better.

I am currently on a plane heading to vegas. It is amazing to me the different types of people there are. I am sitting in front of this jackass that has to be 65 years old and has said "god damn..." At least 20 time. I am watching a movie and I can still hear him yelling! I didn't know that phrase could be used in soooo many ways to prove a point! He uses it in lots of different places in his sentences. He has started some with it, he has ended some with the typical ...now gd. He has described his car,his sister, his cell phone and the grass behind his house all by putting god damn before it. I have had 1 glass of juice and 2 bags of peanuts and he has said "ill be gd" 4 times. I am thinking about slapping him in his fat gd head and telling him that his overuse of that phrase has offended me more than his breath.
I am beginning to hate flying.

My picks have not been great over the last month. November was our worst month in 5 years and we are right at even in december. We did make money in september and october and hoops have turned a profit each of the last 4 weeks but we really need a big bowl season to be able to call this football season a success. Some years are easier than others when your betting on games. Thankfully we have a lot of great seasons and hoops is looking great!

I will try and do a better job of keeping you up to date as we go thru the next month. I leave vegas for florida on thursday and will be going to some of the bowl games. Picking up money and getting a massage over the next couple of days. Have a great week.

Replay officials.

My 7 year old daughter came to me the other day and asked what I thought she should be when she grows up. As always,I said a mermaid. After giving it a little thought I told her that if mermaid didn't work out,she might think about becoming a replay official. I told her, it was one of those jobs, that seemed pretty easy to do, you simply look at a television and then relay what you saw. Not that tough. It is also a job that currently has a bunch of dumb asses on staff. I wouldn't think it could be that hard but judging from a few of the decisions I have seen over the first month of the season, they need some turnover in the replay guy field. I know of 3 different games that I directly lost because of the incompetence of that games replay guy. That is a 6 unit swing caused by a guy doing a job my 7 year old could do. I am waiting to be on the right side of a couple of those calls but I'm not sure if its coming. Maybe I need to start finding out before the games who is in that booth. Then I can factor in the percentage in the game of the replay being a major part of the outcome. Oh well, still going well overall

We are undefeated this week and are going to have a huge weekend. Get signed up for the october guarantee and good luck.

A busy work week,a bye week for 5th grade football and more

Well,we are getting into the meat of the football season. The first 6 weeks of the season could have been worse and it could have been better. Only 1 real bad week. 1 week of 6-9 and a combined 30-16 on the other weeks. We are just above even on the season. Now obviously nobody signs up to break even. The fact is,we are 1 good run from being deep into profit and trust me,that run is coming. We have had seasons like this before, we have a lot of solid wins and some losses with some bad luck. We simply haven't had any good luck to offset some bad luck. Luck will balance out and along with a lot of continued good selections, deep profit is around the corner.
It is a busy couple of weeks ahead. I am off to florida today to meet with some clients, radio people etc. Then back for 10 days before I head to vegas for my first round match up in the leroys national handicap ping contest. Should be a lot of fun.
My sons 5th grade football team is in the middle of their bye week. After a 2-2 start it is clear we have some work to do. The fact is,we lost our quarterback, best rush lineman and 2 others that were key to last seasons success. We are struggling to replace them and we simply are not as good as last season will tell you this,I have more future college graduates on my team than any other in the league. I would bet my kids gpa their senior year in high school will be higher than any other team. W e have a bunch of kids that are going to do great things in life but there is a chance it won't be in football. Kids on all of the teams are starting to figure out the game and we just have a smaller number of those kids than a few of the other teams. We do have great parents and a great group of kids and I will defiantly trade a few wins for the experience I am having with my team.
After the bye week,we head into the playoff run. 3 games left. We will be a favorite against 2 of the teams and a pretty big underdog to the other but you never know. One of my kids might invent a "great football pill" between now and november. Then who's the favorite? You laugh but with these kids , you never know.

Have a great week and let me know if you want to take advantage of my october guarantee.

Back on track and 5th grade football

After our first losing week of the season,we got back on track with a winning week including going 5-1 in the nfl sunday and monday. With the new month brings new excitement. October is typically one of our most profitable months all season.

Last week my 10 year olds football team played their first game of the season. we were a 7 point favorite ,and the total was 21 1/2. We won 18-0 so the general public won with the favorite! Good for them. This is a big week for the team. We play the other 2 teams in the league that would be considered the favorites to win in all. The 3 of us are all pretty evenly matched so we will see. Playing both thursday and sunday should be fun and come monday we will know a lot more about our team. Due to the fact our best rush lineman and our best offensive lineman were questionable the lines were late coming our. Both of those players won't play for us so here is the updated line

Thursday

Cleveland -2
Total 21 1/2
Over truman

Sunday
Roosevelt -2
Total 20 1/2
Over truman.

Should be an exciting weekend both betting on the games and coaching. Get signed up today and win this weekend.

Key to my handicapping success..... My wife.

I was on an airplane the other day thinking about things. I was thinking about how blessed I am to be the fat jack. How great it is to be able to pick winners against the spread and help players make money. I was thinking about how nice it is to be good at something that is fun and helps lots of people. Then I thought about why. Why am I so blessed? Just simply, why?
Its simple really, the best decision I have made in my life is asking my wife out on a first date. At the time it didn't seem like a huge thing, just the easiest way to maybe have sex that week but it ended up being much more important. Although she didn't put out in the first month, that month changed my life. She taught me to look at life in a whole different way. She was and is the happiest most grateful most loving person I have ever met. She is the type of person that after almost 20 years of marriage, wakes up every day and thanks god we get to spend another day together. Yes really. She tells me and our children she loves us at least 6 times every day! Yes really,I have counted. She will do anything to help make our lives better each day. The point is, how in the hell couldn't I be successful!? Ever man should be so lucky to have a woman that makes it her only goal to help him be the best he can be. I would have to be the biggest idiot in the world not to find the things I am great at and make them work for us. She is truly an amazing person and my clients and I are lucky to have her behind us.

Have a great weekend and if you are a man, show this entry to your wife/girlfriend and then ask her wtf ?
If you are a woman, think about 100 percent commitment. No secret accounts,no lying but actually pulling on the same rope as your husband. You will be amazed how great he can be when that happens.

Fat jack sports hour tv

We are heading into a new weekend and the games look great. Although we have won 2 of the first 3 weekends, we are due for a monster week. 9-2 or better is considered great and the card looks good for both saturday and sunday.

We are going into week 4 of the fat jack sports hour tv show. This show is on in oklahoma cox channel 7 at 8am saturday mornings and 10pm on sunday evenings. I have heard from a lot of people that are watching and thanks for that. We are adding features every week and are starting to figure out what translates well from radio to tv and what doesn't.

We are also in the middle of the fat jacks football and poker classic at the firelake casino in shawnee. I do these things as just another example of what makes me different from the shady salesmen handicappers most are use to. I get out in the public,I stand behind my selections,I talk about both winning and losing weeks. We try and do things the right way. If you are a poker player, guys are coming in from all over the country for this great event. Please join us.

Btw, when I was on the plane going to vegas a few days ago I sat next to an oklahoma congressman. I think it was the dr from eastern oklahoma. Coburn maybe. Anyway he had his computer out and was looking over his schedule for the week. I must tell you it was a whole lot of nothing! Lots of meetings with people that had ideas that sounded like they were never going to happen. One looked like it was with mothers against drunk driving to discuss raising the driving or drinking age. Maybe both. His notes were hard to read. Either way, that's not happening. People will continue driving at 16 and drinking at 21 no matter what is said in that meeting. With that being the case,I think that meeting is a waste of his time and since I (as a tax payer) am paying his salary it is a waste of my money. I should have talked to him about it but I was breaking down the games for the weekend and didn't have time for a debate about his time management.

I am offering the rest of the month for only 99.00. Get signed up and turn a profit this weekend.

5th grade football and responsibilities debate

Ok, I have a problem. Not with the picks, things are going well but something much much larger.

This thursday is the second day of ultimate fat jack football and poker classic. I have a tournament to host/play in at 7pm. I have been working on this for about 2 or 3 months. Kind of a big deal to me. Well, I found out today that I also have the first game of the season for my sons 5th grade tackle football team! Worst case!
Now at first you might think the answer is simple. Promotion I have been working on for 3 months vs. 5th grade football. Seems like an easy choice ,right? Wrong! First of all, I am the offensive coordinator/head coach of the team. What kind of message an I sending if I don't show to the first game? Its like, "hey kids, I want you to practice 3 times a week, hitting your friends ,putting in the time, sweating and bruising your little bodies, and I will be there with you unless something more important comes up!?" I am not going to do that! I have told these boys we are in this together and I mean it! I am still working on how I am not going to be at a poker event that is called the "fat jack" poker tournament but I do think that if most of the players in the event really thought about it and put their selves in my shoes they would somehow pick the same thing.
Maybe not but it s the right decision for me.
I think I can do all of the prework at the casino, get everything ready and then leave at 6pm to drive the 45 minutes to norman to coach and then be back by 10pm to wrap things up for the evening.
It is a 4 day event so I don't think overall it will be a huge deal and if it is then I still choose 5th grade football. I have a commitment to these kids that in my opinion is much greater than business, poker, promotions etc.

Btw, we are playing monroe. Here is the line

Truman -7
Total of 21 1/2

I will let you know how everything goes.

People watching at the airport

Well, we had our first losing week of the season. I hate losing weeks!! The problem with winning every 3 out of 4 weeks on average is 1 out of every 4 weeks is almost always is a loser! We are still making money on the season and had another on monday night so things are fine but I always want my clients to win. Most of my clients understand we are going to have bad weeks and are grateful for all of the winning ones so everything is good.

I have to go to vegas for 24 hours. I don't want to go but I have a really important meeting,so I'm going. If it goes well. It is going to be a great thing for me and the company I am talking to. I like win,win deals and this is one of those.

I am sitting in the airport watching people. All types of people. There is a hispanic woman who has a child that might be the devil. The kid is yelling and screaming. He is wiggling and flopping. He is trying everything to get away from his mother. The mom is going with the "silent restraint" method. Now I'm no dr phil but I have always felt the "silent restraint" method of discipline was the least effective and the most annoying to those around you. Think about it, if you were trying to change the behavior of any animal, the s - r method never works. Your child is a lot smarter and has more will than any animal! I want to go tell that mom to try the "eye to eye, idol threat" method. That is where you get down to eye level with the kid and calmly tell him that if he doesn't shut his mouth you are going to throw him out of the plane. If the threat is bad enough,he will shut up because there is at least a chance you might do it. How about the "drag and bust" method? That's where you stop with the silent restraint, actually get your a++ up and take the yelling child to the bathroom and teach him there are conscience for his actions.

After a win on monday we are ready for a big weekend. If you are betting on the games and down on the season, get signed up today. Have a good week.

WEEKEND LOOKS GREAT

Another week is gone and Friday is here. It sure seems like the older I get, the faster the weeks go by. This time of year,I am really busy so I am sure it has something to do with that. My next poker event is less than 2 weeks away and should be HUGE! We are having it at a great casino, The Firelake Grand Casino, in Shawnee Ok. You can go to www.cardplayer.com and look at upcoming events for the details but I am really excited about it because we are going to give away a lot of great stuff to the players. A trip to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl, televisions and flowers to the ladies just to name a few. The casino allows cash to play on the table so the live games should be really good.

As we head into the weekend, I am thinking about a lot of things. We had a winner on Thursday night and the weekend games look good. I released 5 selections for tomorrow and I feel great about all of them. I am also thinking about my upcoming round robin, for my sons 5th grade football team. We are still having trouble moving the ball but it should be a lot of fun. I also am doing a lot more work for the Fat Jack Sports Hour television show. I am going to the OU football game and film a segment for the show about back up quarterbacks. I may also follow up last weeks feature "free winners from the garage sale" with a new feature called "fee winners from the football stadium Urinal" . Should be ground breaking stuff!

Have a great weekend and if you are betting on the games, get signed up. We had Cincy on Monday night and Tennessee +6 last night (both winners). The weekend is going to be great so don't miss out. Also, I am sending out free winners on twitter each week so if you are wanting to see what the fee bees look like, sign up and follow me on twitter.  Thanks, Jack

WINNING WEEK AND MY SPECIFIC PROBLEM WITH SOCCER

Well, first week in the books and we are into profit. Starting with easy winners on Thursday and Friday and ending with Cincinnati on Monday. I am sure there are some other people that also made money but for those of you that are already down.... WTF?  How can you be betting on the games, reading the blog of the best handicapper in America and are bad enough at picking winners on your own, that you were not able to make money on what was an easy weekend to find some winners? You might want to take the 3 minutes and less than $10.00/selection and start getting on the right side of some of these games. We are going to have  a great weekend with the start of the NFL season and if you didn't make money this weekend, you need to get signed up and stop paying your man.

Ok, I got a call from a friend of mine today. The timing of my "soccer" entry ,a few days ago, made him think I might have specific experiences that I was mentioning when I said, I hated soccer. After reading the entry again, I could see how people might think I hate all soccer. Specifically, the part where I say,"I hate soccer" and other parts where I talk about the skills needed in soccer. Let me be a little more specific about my feelings on soccer as it related to me and my team.

1. I love kids that play more than one sport. I am a strong believer that ALL kids should play lots of different sports. The kids that focus on only 1 sport are setting themselves up for disappointment. Having all of your eggs in one basket is very dangerous. So the fact I talk bad about kids having to miss one practice to go to another one is actually very hypocritical on my part.

2. The fact is, soccer is better for 80% of the kids long term than football is. Most kid 4th and 5th grade kids are not going pro in football and EVERYONE can benefit from being in shape and soccer is about running and staying fit. I do believe, like a lot of sports, soccer has become a lot more about chasing down titles and less about staying in  shape but that is another blog entry.

So some of you are saying "Jack, your last entry doesn't sound like someone that likes soccer. This one sounds like you do. " " You cant have it both ways.'

Well , thats where your wrong. Sometimes I get focused on MY short comings, maybe the last entry was MORE about my frustration with the fact, I am trying to teach an offense to my football team and they were getting it a little slower than I would have liked so I blamed the only thing I could think of at the time. The fact is, when I wrote that blog, soccer hadn't even started. I was on a plane (2 weeks ago) and was bored and drawing up new plays on my napkin. There weren't any kids on MY team that had a conflict because soccer hadnt even started.
Maybe, my problem isnt with soccer at all  and instead more about my ability to teach my little players how to score.
Yes, I might have just used soccer as a whipping boy. Sounds like, when I have a problem scoring in little league football, I might need to spend less time looking at the fields on Robinson and more time looking in the mirror in my bathroom.

LONG LIVE DAVID BECKHAM!!

BTW, It is nice to have friends that call and tell me I might sound like a Jackass when I write or talk in a public forum.  I dont always realize it on my own and I appreciate people that talk to me when they have something on their mind.  Thanks.

I have an easy winner going tomorrow night and a great weekend ahead. Have a great weekend and enjoy your games, no matter what the shape of the ball.

A few thoughts and 5th grade football season futures!! Place your bets!!!!!

I was in vegas last week and as everyone knows , vegas has felt the recession more than most places. I have thought about buying a place but the problem is, when home prices are low and people aren't going to vegas, I get lots of offers for free rooms. Then when they have recovered and the town is hopping,I stop getting as many offers! Probably just keep doing what I have been doing. I did see something new on the excalibor marquee. Apparently, you can pay 25.00 and eat all day long as many times as you want! Kind of an all- inclusive for the cheap and obese. 25.00 sounds like a great price and if the food is half way decent then that is a nice idea.

It is game week for my sons football team. I am the head coach and the offensive coordinator. Now, on the surface that sounds like a pretty easy gig for someone like me. After all,I spend most of my waking hours breaking down teams and am as well versed in football as anyone. I am positive I have forgotten more football then most men will ever know and am one of the only ones willing to put my money on my knowledge of the game
...but....
these kids are like a riddle!! It is like trying to get a group of poodles to perform the opening to lord of the dance!!! How hard is it to go into motion and pass the qb when the ball is snapped!!! It is apparently really really hard if you are 10 years old! I will ask them to simply turn around and hand the ball off and they get the ball and start dancing around like someone just turned on the dance version of you spin me right round, round ,like a record baby....
I don't get it!!! Then someone finally gets the play down and there mom comes running up and says they have to go to soccer!!!! Soccer???!!! Give me a freakin break. I get 2 hours twice a week to teach my plays and soccer is a 11 month,6 days a week,4 hours a day lesson on running around and kicking it to the wing man!! Not that hard!
Oh well, we are still early in the season and I am sure they are going to get it. We are having a great time and that is all that matters. Round robin is sunday so we will know more about where we stack up then.

Pre round robin odds to win the norman 5th grade optimist tackle football super bowl.

Cleveland/all saints.- even
The powers that be, combined the second best team from last year with the best athlete in the league(charlie something). This ,combined with a coaching change makes them the favorite.

Roosevelt - 2 to 1
The defending champs are back from last year. Along with being my nemesis on the field , they have some big hitters and a quarterback #10 that is 50 lbs soaking wet, but the kid gets it! He is the coaches kid and probably has older brothers. He finds holes and is a good leader that spreads the ball around. That combination has made them a balanced team and the second choice.

Truman ( my team ) - 5 to 1
Although we lost our quarterback and our best rush lineman on defense there is a sprinkling of good athletes on both sides of the ball. Truman also has some defensive coaches that are sure they are buddy Ryan's illegitimate kids , and the expectation of excellence on defense will help the team if the coaches don't get into a fight before the team has time to gel. The defense will keep them in most games but a lot like the chicago bears, truman has offensive issues! Starting with their head coach/offensive coordinator ( me) and ending with a group of boys that enjoy the reckless hitting that comes with defense and are resisting the discipline and effort that it takes to run my high powered offense, we have a long way to go before the playoffs. Truman does have a couple of big play threats and a group of undersized quarterbacks that are in a heated battle for the starting job. With some kids that can catch passes and quarterbacks that can all throw. Truman may end up with a hybrid version of the fun and gun before the end of the year. With 10 weeks to get the kids on the same page, don't count truman out just yet.

Jackson elementary and others- 5 to 1
This is the green team from last season that made it to the finals with 17 boys on the team and not a 1 kid over 4 feet tall and 60 lbs. It was like watching cast members from circus ole' go into the form of a football team. This season their coach gets to combine with some big kids and a few kids that have spent the last few seasons up in that infant football factory known as moore, oklahoma. They are well coached and if some of their kids are as advertised, they might surprise.

Field - 10 to 1

There are 4 other teams in the league. I don't know much about most of them. I played with one of the coaches in high school and he is great with the kids if he has the athletes. They might be the best of the rest. We will see.

These lines will change after the round robin so if you see some value, get to vegas today.

Oh,and if you are trying to make money with 5th grade future bets, you might want to get signed up with me and get some real front line winner! Have a great week.

Things to do in dallas

I know a lot of people from oklahoma are going to be making a bonus trip to dallas this weekend so here are a few ideas for you to do while in big d.

1. Fogo de chao or texas de brazil!! Seriously, if you are a meat eater or even 5 lbs overweight, one of these are a must do. A little pricey but you won't mind because it is as good as it gets if you love meat.

2. The american girl store. If you have a daughter under 30 years old. This is your place. Just buy her the doll with the clothes they have on. Then show her all of the other options she will have,if she is a good girl, the next time you come back to dallas. The great thing is,it will become a tradition each time you go to a city with a store. It is also great leverage if her grades start to slip or you are wanting more goals in her soccer game. Bribes get it done!

3. Pappadeaux- more great food. Kinda trendy but still has the best cajun seafood in town.

4. The ghetto- if you are taking your kids to the game, drive thru the ghetto. Dallas has lots of poor scary neighborhoods and nothing makes your kids appreciate where they live more than a fake car breakdown on mlk blvd.

5. There is a Jamaican place that was on diners, drive ins and dives that is in arlington that looked great. Look it up and let me know if its any good.

Have a great trip and drive safe.

If you are signed up for my service and betting more than 50.00 per game I guarantee to pay for your meal with our profit. Get signed up today.

Prop bets worth a few bucks

As most of you might know, I will start twittering free winners this weekend. Now,understand,my free winners are exactly that ..free. If you are trying to make money you might want to think about investing the less than 10.00 per selection and get my top plays but for those of you small players and those of you in prison betting soap and cigs, here are a few props to get you going.

1. Total wins by the chicago bears over 8 wins

Heading back from vegas, let the games begin !!!!

I am coming home from a 24 hour trip to vegas. I came out to place a few futures bets and have a meeting with an associate of mine. Have to get my ducks in a row before the games start. I wish I could have stayed longer but duty calls. I have to get everyone signed up for the season starting in 2 days and I have a scrimmage with my sons 5th grade football team today. I always try and keep my family first and as much as a massage this morning would have felt great, it couldn't take away the guilt I would have felt if I would have missed his scrimmage.
Also, the first episode of the fat jack sports hour on television runs this weekend!! It is a little like mike and mike in the morning meets howard stern but without any talent. I am sure you can't wait to see it and if you are betting on the games, it is can't miss tv. The show will run in oklahoma city on saturday mornings from 8am-9am and sunday nights from 10pm - 11 pm. Watch out dean blevins, you've got some competition!! Seriously, I am excited about the show and am currently filling it up with some great sponsors. We will have all of the current lines of the games and much more. If you live outside oklahoma, you can catch it on youtube or at my website each week. Really a fun show and going to get better each week.
I have found a few great spots this weekend and feel really good about the prospects of having a winning week. Last season we started the season with 3 winning weeks in a row and ever looked back! Here's to a repeat performance.

Only 2 more days to get signed up and get all of the games. I look forward to hearing from you today!!!!

Game week!!!! and shaking hands

We are finally here. It has been a great summer but it is nice to finally be in the first week of real football this year! We have actually made some good money in the preseason but there is something to be said for the start of the season. We typically make a lot of money over the month of september and being able to win at something that most lose at is a special thing and makes me feel good. Thursday we are going to have at least 2 selections and by the end of the weekend will have about 8 games under our belt. I am starting to hear some of the other idiot handicappers on the air ways. I always cringe when I hear one of those guys offer their "opening weekend underdog ,game of the year!!!" On the air. They always end it with "absolutely free!!" Now of course most of you understand that if they actually had something worth giving,it wouldn't be free because they have rent also and they would charge for this glorious pick. Just watch, most of these guys really start with the ad blitz after the first week or so. Their tact is to appeal to those losers from the first week or so and get their last bit of money before they quit. My clients will most likely start out into profit and won't have to worry about catching up so I don't offer this "pie in the sky" game. Just 2 ways to conduct business.

There seems to be a big debate going on across the country on weather football teams should shake hands before their games. Are you kidding me? Seems to me that there is an obvious answer here.
The only reason you should have teams shake hands before the game is if you are going to give them weapons and make it a pay per view death match. Otherwise, the time to shake hands, like it has been since the beginning of little league is after the games. This does 2 things. It keeps the kids from beating the crap out of each other and possibly getting hurt before the game even starts and turning one of my selections from a winner to a loser and it forces the college football player to learn how to win and lose with grace. Too many 3rd string non athletic parents have been telling their kids that " you ,show no mercy." or " Hate your opponent when your on that field" for too long! Most of these jackasses have never won or lost anything so the fact they are shaping the kids/athletes of tomorrow is ridiculous. The fact is, you can "leave it all on the field" and still have some class when its over, win or lose. Making kids display this quality after the game seems to be the obvious thing that is missing from today's games. Not a half hearted hand slap before the game followed by some of the most violent hits on the planet. Oh well. Leave it to the same jackasses that run the only sport in the world without a playoff system to screw this one up also.

Sign up today and get all of the selections this season for the best price and also follow me on twitter for some extra free winners starting this week.

Enjoy the games!!!

A NEW SEASON BUT I AM LOOKING AROUND FOR BILL MURRAY

As we head into the 2009-2010 NCAA football season, there are locker rooms on campuses across the country filled with optimism and the dream of a National Championship. If you ask a player from Michigan, UCLA, Tennessee or most other teams "what makes this season different?" They will most likely tell you about their great off season and how their freshman have grown up and are showing lots of promise. All of these are great ideas and I am sure if I was putting on my shoulder pads in Knoxville, I would also feel we were truly going to make the difference. But as I sit here breaking down the upcoming season, I can't help but wonder when Ned Briarson is going to come walking by. For those of you that don't remember, Ned Briarson was one of the characters in the Bill Murray movie, "Groundhog Day". I am all for the dream of championships that only the start of the new season can bring. However, from where I am sitting it is clear that this year is different. The fact that key players on most of the best teams from last year decided to stay in school makes this a year that when trying to find the winners of the BCS Bowls, the best tool you can reference might just be last season's results.

Here are a few key factors that should help the "old guard" repeat as the main players in this seasons BCS games and a betting man would tell you that your 2009-2010 national champion will be one of these 5 teams.

USC- The Trojans are 4 ½ to 1 to win it all and that is probably a good price from the class of the west. Of course, losing quarterback Mark Sanchez is a problem, but USC is still the best of not only the PAC 10 but the entire western third of the country. This is important because until we get a playoff system in college football selecting the teams that play for the title will in part be a popularity contest. With 1/3 of the country looking at the same team being the best in their backyard, USC will have the edge if it comes down to teams with the same record when trying to decide who gets to play for it all. USC will replace/reload at the QB spot and be a major player in January.

Florida- For most, the gators is the obvious pick to play for it all but before we give them the title, let's look at a couple of key problems for the defending champs. First, it is very rare that the team that starts the season ranked #1 ends the season on top. The gators are going to get everybody's best shot due to the fact they are #1 and in the past, the gators have not been afraid of playing down to their competition sometime in late September or early October. Lots of great teams do this but most gator fans will agree, they like Tebow a lot more with the lead then coming from behind. Second, the SEC is still one of the top 2 conferences in the country and with the emergence of teams like Ole Miss and the great talent throughout the conference; don't be surprised if the gators again slip up when nobody is looking. Remember, ground hog day means repeat the good and the bad and at less than 2-1 to repeat, I will try and find a little better odds on a team that has an easier road to the BCS championship.

Texas/Oklahoma- These teams are combined because only one of these teams will be in the conversation in December. These teams have a lot in common as we head into the season. First, they both are feeding their players something that makes them hate money! Oklahoma returns underclassmen, which if they had come out after last season, were guaranteed to be millionaires. Gerald McCoy and Sam Bradford will again be a big part of the Sooners success but having to rebuild the offensive might just be the difference in a couple of games. Texas returns, everybody's favorite country boy, Colt McCoy who also would have had a great chance of making big bucks at the next level. The fact that these players decided to stay in school to play football and eat ramen noodles for another season gets them in the conversation of ending #1 but after last year's beat down of Oklahoma by Florida, the public/polls won't be near as forgiving of a Big 12 team if they are not undefeated. Everyone knows the winner of the Red River battle in October will have the inside track but the Big 12 is also going to be a strong conference top to bottom and a late season slip by the winner of that game isn't out of the question. Texas at 6-1 provides the best odds of these 2 teams but I would save my money for a team with an easier path.

So, who wins it all?

My pick is-

The Ohio State Buckeyes- They are 5 or 6 in most preseason polls due to the loss of their 3 All-Americans. Yes, these are key losses but with 7 returning on defense and one of the top 3 players in the country, Terrell Pryor at QB, the Buckeyes will be hitting on all cylinders by the time they get into the Big 10 season. I expect Penn State to go back to the team we were used to seeing before last season's great run and Michigan is still a few seasons away. At 8-1 we are getting great odds and a much easier schedule than the other contenders.

Yes, I believe the same teams will be in the conversation for the eventual champ but the title will return thru the Big 10 and at 8-1 odds to win it all, a little "winner winner chicken dinner!!!" for my clients that follow my winning selections.

Las Vegas odds to win the 2009-2010 BCS Title

Florida 2 to 1

USC 4 ½ to 1

Oklahoma 4 ½ to 1

Texas 6 to 1

Ohio State 8 to 1

Alabama 15 to 1

LSU 20 to 1

Florida State 20 to 1

Miami, Fl 35 to 1

S. Florida 40 to 1

Auburn 80 to 1

Michigan 80 to 1

Of course, I am in the business of finding winners against the spread and winning straight up is secondary to covering the spread for my clients. However, the teams at the top will be the first place you might want to look when finding the early season blow outs. Have a great season and give me a call if you are going to Vegas or the Bahamas and I can help you come home a winner!!

2. I watched 71 innings of professional baseball and 7 innings of minor league baseball.

3. I bought 3 jerseys for my son,a hat and purse for my wife and a soccer outfit and a robe for my daughters american girl doll.

4. Went deep sea fishing 3 times, snorkeling 3 times and parasailing 0 times.

5. I ate at a Brazilian steak house 11 times, joes stone crab 3 times and steak n shake 2 times.

6. I player in 3 fat jack poker tour events and the main event in the world series of poker. Made 0 dollars combined.

7. Lost 2 hats,1 snorkel, 1 life jacket and gained 14 pounds!

8. Spent 82 out of 91 days being a father and husband first and the fat jack second.

9. Had 15 different friends and family stay on the boat and created memories that will last a life time.

10. Told my wife and kids how much I love them at least 3 times everyday for 91 days.

We had a great summer and I will never forget the times we shared together.

Bring on the fall of 2009!!!! We are ready to go!!

Back from chicago and michael vick

I am back from a short trip to chicago. I went up there for some business/pizza. It was my first time in chicago and I have to say,I really enjoyed it. If new york city, san franscisco and dallas had a baby,it would be chicago. The people are friendly and I was amazed at how clean a place it was. I wasn't all that impressed with the pizza. I guess I am a joes taco pizza kind of guy but I did have the best time ever at a baseball game. I have a client that has first row seats right next to first base at the cubs games. It was the first time I had been to a cubs game and to be that close was awesome! I took my 10 year old and we had a great time.

Michael vick signed with philly this week and I am amazed at the reactions of some fans. Frankly, I have been amazed at the reactions and punishments given to him by both the nfl and the court system. Now before you label me a dog killer, let me say, I hate everything about what vick did. I have owned lots of dogs and can't imagine why anyone would want to fight them for fun or money. That being said, I just think that punishments should be consistent with the crimes committed. Ask yourself this, if you had to decide which of the following was going to happen, which would you choose?
1. A 300 lb man was going to break the nose, arm and jaw of a woman you have never met.
Or
2. A dog was going to be killed.

Which would you pick? Option 1 or 2.

I wouldn't want to pick either option either but what if you had to choose one of them.

For me its simple. I would pick # 2. In fact, I would give up my own animal before I would want a person to be hurt. Again, neither are good. Both are horrible but I think one is worse than the other. If you pick option 2 then you either think that over 20 pro athletes per year need to be suspended for their seasons and put in jail for at least 6 months for assault and battery or you think vicks punishment was too harsh. Right now there is a chicago black hawks player that beat up a cab driver in buffalo and I promise you he isn't going to spend 1 night in jail. Again, what michael vick did was horrible but I am a christian man that believes in forgiveness and second chances. If vick keeps his nose clean and stays out of trouble I hope the public will start to look at this guy as a man that made a mistake and has paid for his crime and stop looking at him as the poster boy for all that is wrong in the world. Just my opinion.

The preseason nfl season is underway and I have gotten hot in baseball 4-0 this week! Guys are getting signed up for the fall football packages and we are less than 3 weeks away from the regular season. If you're going to bet on the games ,make this season different! Stop losing! Start winning! No more picking up the paper and guessing who might win. We are going to have another big season and you can make money with us by playing my selections. My return last season killed the stock market and even the best mutual funds. Invest a little and make a lot. That is what my clients do and we are starting this weekend with preseason nfl selections.

Get signed up and have a great weekend.

Lobster hunting recap and heading north to go home. Football is almost here!!

Just left duck key where we had a good time lobster hunting. It started a bit slow the first day and I was threatening to ban lobster season and ask for my 20 bucks back for the license. I was going to open unicorn season in my back yard and charge 20 bucks to make my money back from a few hopeful souls but on day 2 we got into some lobsters. We caught about 20 but only 4 were big enough to keep. We would have had 2 more but after being stopped in my dingy by the keys wildlife officers and given a warning for keeping undersized lobsters ,we threw them back. I swear the officer that wrote my warning was the same guy that fined me 45k when I accidentally ran my boat into the john pennicamp national park near key largo a few years ago but he said he would have remembered that. Still all in all a great week.

Its about time to go back to oklaoma and get ready for a huge month. Football starts in a few weeks and I am ready. My clients made a lot ,and I mean a lot of money last season and this season feels a lot like last one did at this time. I am ready to go.

We have a poker tournament in clinton next week. The fat jacks dog days of summer poker classic is always a big favorite and I am expecting a huge turnout.

Get signed up before the weekend and take advantage of the early bird prices for the fall. Prices go up this weekend.

Have a great day!!

Lobster hunting and getting ready for some football!!

I am currently 10 miles east of boca raton, florida heading south for the keys. lobster mini season starts tuesday and we are meeting my wives aunt there for a few days. I have had a great summer that started with a 16-4 finish in the nba playoffs and is ending with a building excitement for football season. I wrote an article for a preseason southeastern conference football magazine that talked about future odds to win the national championship and another article about a playoff system. I will post both of those this week to the "in the news" part of the website. That will give those of you that are wanting to bet on the 2010 bcs championship my info on the subject. I have been spending more and more time working on the football season and I will tell you, I think it is going to be a great season for my clients and I. Some seasons are easier to get ready for than others and with some key trades in the nfl and other factors in ncaa football,I expect a huge season. Not to mention that I will also be coaching my sons 5th grade football team. I don't think it was a coincidence we had a huge year and I was spending a little of my time teaching tomorrows players. Not to mention,I had a great time.

There is a storm up ahead and I am not positive what I need to do to get around it so I will cut this entry short and talk to you soon.

For those of you waiting to sign up for the fall, prices go up after 8-1 so sign up today because the early bird gets the worm.

I am currently at the bellagio casino playing 50-100 no limit holdem. Things are good..today. Yesterday was a different story. After winning or splitting 5 single table 1k sit n gos, I felt ready for the main event. I slept well, had a good meal and had a feeling it was going to be a magical day. What I failed to factor in to my optimism was 1 complete jackass that ,as luck would have it, was put at my table to begin the tournament. In the man event ,you start with 30k in chips and the one thing most can agree on is it takes a little luck to win the most prestigious tournament on the planet. Anyone that wins a satellite tournament or simply has 10k can play in the event so it is a hard event to win. Now,back to my experience in the tournament. I sat down and after lots of pomp and circumstance that included the national anthem and doyle brunson saying "shuffle up and deal"we were under way. I didn't win a hand for the first 3 hours, only playing a handful of pots but was only down to 24k at the dinner break. I was tired of not getting any cards and sick of the idiots I had spent the last 3 hours of my life with but still felt pretty good about my chances. When we started back,I got hot! I quickly ran my chips up to 40k and was running over my group of idiots,I mean opponents. Then the following happened..

I had a-j of spades this hillbilly in the 1 seat that looked like the fat,no talent, inbred, half sized brother of blake griffin had k of hearts and 4 of diamonds.
Strong!

I bet 1k before the flop,he calls.
The flop comes

K-s 8-s q-d

I bet 5k,he calls.

The turn was a 3-c

I bet 9k, inbred blake ,for some reason calls!!!

Now some of you that are either new or bad at poker might say "he does have the best hand" and technically you would be correct but as you get better at poker you will find that the game is as much about what the other players might have as it is about what you have. Ask yourself, what could I have had that king 4 could beat? The answer...nothing!!! If I have anything worth betting 14 of my 45k,he is way behind going into the river.
The river is a 3 of hearts. Now at this point I can either check and give away 25k of my chips to a guy that seems to be on a draw or bet and hope he is on a draw or figures out what game he is actually playing. All he had to do is ask himself,"self, what hand could fat jack have that I can beat!!!" Answer...nothing!!

I bet 10k more and he calls showing king -4 off suit.
F@+#*+

Then

6 hands later,I had a-a and the same idiot had a-k and rivered a straight for the rest of my stack.
So if you see a half sized, inbred hillbilly blake griffin at the final table of the world series of poker you will know he got there with my chips!!

On a more positive note ,I am running really good overall in poker and won my last baseball selection. Heading to florida tomorrow for 3 meetings about the football season and going to meet my family there. I am beginning to really miss them.
Have a great week.

Back in america!!

After 3 weeks in the bahamas,we are about an hour east of miami and heading to the nearest steak house. It is funny, you never appreciate america more than when you are coming back from being out of the country. We had a great time and had a lot of conch but it is nice to have the advantages of being an american. I am starting to get excited about football season. Being off is nice but it is nice to be doing something you are good a and for me it is picking winners. I will be home on sunday for a couple of meetings and then to vegas on thursday for the wsop main event. I am feeling pretty lucky and if I am not refreshed now I may never be. Have a great weekend and I will have more regular entries now that I am back in the states.

Ps. North korea can suck it.

Day 4-7 from the dentist to the sea

Well,I'm not sure where I left off with the tales of my journey but here is what's been going on the last few days.

- I woke up after the longest day of my life refreshed and ready for a new start. South seas plantation on sanabel island is beautiful and there were 5 manatees swimming around the boat. I was optimistic it was going to be a great day. As I started biting down on a breakfast sandwich I realized the cap on my tooth had fallen off!! Not good. As the day went along and I was trying to figure out what to do about my tooth all of the power on the boat went off! Apparently, the power cable blew up and I was in need of an electrician. We met some incredibly nice people and they called a friend to come out at 7pm to help me. There are some truly nice people in the world and we were blessed to meet a few over the last few days.

- I found a dentist to look at my tooth. Along with my dentist in norman,we talked about what to do about my cap and the fact I am going to have trouble eating conch without a back tooth. The consensus is to try and keep it clean and make it back to oklahoma before I get it fixed. I love the bahamas but am not sure if I want a bahamian dentist messing with my teeth. On a positive note, I should lose a couple of pounds with the limited diet I will be on. I will keep you updated.

- we left sanabel island and headed 50 miles south the marco island for a couple of days. I had a meeting friday afternoon and will be here for the belmont on saturday. My clients are given my selections on the horse races for free. We hit the exacta in the preakness and are looking for a big win today.

-tomorrow we will set off for key largo. The last time I was in key largo in a boat,I was being pulled off a reef in the john pennicamp national park. I will be exercising some pennicamp national park demons over the next couple of days so I am excited about that.
-the good news is I am 4-0 on my selections when I watch the game in key largo so I am expecting a big win in game 2 of the nba finals. We have had a great run over the last couple of months in hoops and are looking for a big finish.

Have a good weekend and here's to not seeing me on cnn.

More bad luck but great picks

Well,my last entry was about a ,what turned out to be a ,10 hour boat ride. After running over an unmarked sand bar,I limped twards ft myers all day. It was a beautiful trip but as the sun went down and the 9th hour wrapped up, I was sick of beautiful and just wanted the day to be over. As it turned out my day was far from over. As darkness set in I turned into the inlet. I had been given sketchy directions from a hot girl in the marina when the sun was up and which required light to read the numbers on the channel markers. It was dark and my son and I were very tired so we were going to try and make it. Here is where it gets sad..
I entered the channel and tried to spot the markers thru the darkness. With no luck I resorted to following the directions on my gps. As I headed to the channel given on my boat gps , I was not aware of a very important piece of info. About 10 days ago the channel into the resort collapsed! This means shallow water in the dark!! As I get into the channel, my depth finder showed 1.6ft of water. I need 4.2 feet of water in my 55'boat. I was stuck on the sand bar for about an hour trying to get free. With the help of some drunk teenagers and my 10 year old first mate,we got the boat free around 11pm. I pulled into the marina and guess what, no power!! That is a bad beat after a horrible day!! We get the power back around 1am and I went to bed. I woke up to the knock of the hillbilly that was going to replace my props and started my day. I was sure it was going to get better and took the family for breakfast. As I am eating an egg sandwich I feel the crown on my back lower right tooth break off! Yes, a crown that looked like a thumb tack broke off during breakfast! I called my dentist and he told me I needed to find the hole in my mouth that the nail attached to the crown went in. In other words, amateur dentistry! Nothing I enjoy more than to challenge myself with a little sunday morning self dentistry. After about 15 min of trying,I found the hole (that's what she said) and got my tooth back in. Not sure for how long but things are looking up.
On a happier note,I predicted the lakers and orlando to go to the finals before the series started and lots of my clients and I got the magic at 5-1 so lots of extra profit. Lots of guys taking advantage of the early bird value prices and are signing up for the fall. If you are going to be betting this fall, now is the time to save some money and get signed up. The 5 to 1 orlando series price winners are free with your commitment to the fall.
Have a good week!!

Daddy trip and first minor snag!!

Well, I'm in florida on daddy trip with jackson and thing have been going great. We bought fishing poles and a bike to prepare for our journey to ft meyers today. We went to the store and got cokes, chips and other stuff he likes to eat when moms not around.
Then at 8am we shoved off.
Things were going great. We ate chips and root beer for breakfast. We were the kings of the sea! We decided to turn in to sarasota for lunch. I apparently cut the turn a little close and my water level went from 10 feet to 2 feet instantly and I heard those familiar bells going off that meant we were grounding!!!!unbelievable!!! We limped into the marine max service center and ,since I have done it before,I knew we had bent a prop. I can tell when I bend one by the way the boat drives. Since it is the weekend we decided to have the prop diver meet us in ft meyers tomorrow and we are making the 50 mile trip going 7 knots (apx 7 miles per hour) son of a b#**#!! Looks like we will be getting in a touch late. The good news is,it is beautiful and my son is use to this type of stuff. Just part of the journey I guess. There are worst places to be.
Btw,just looked off the back of the boat and my son was urinating in the ocean. Gotta love daddy trip. Have a good weekend.

Nba playoffs,schools out,daddy trip

Well, I have been back from vegas for about 2 weeks and have been very busy during that time. We had a very successful poker tournament at the clinton lucky star casino. Over 150 people showed up for the 3 day event and we gave a seat to the world series of poker in vegas to the winner of the main event. Lots of fun and a great way to start memorial weekend.

Although we have had a lot of rain, we have been playing a lot of baseball over the last couple of weeks. My 10 year old is on a team of great kids that are also good athletes but this is their first year to play baseball together and for some of them their first year of baseball ever. I will tell you that this team started the season years behind the elite 10 year old teams that have been playing together since they were 3 years old but by the end of the season,we were already competitive with most teams and won a lot of games. This is my first bit of evidence that those of you that started sports as soon as your kids could walk have been wasting your time. It also is a sign that I am probably correct when I have said that those kids with parents that want to live thru their kids athletics and play 65 games a year when you are 4 and 5 years old need to enjoy it now because their kids won't be playing when they get older. They will burn out and get injured. The fact our team of bush men kids could make up years of games by other kids in just a couple of months is evidence to the philosophy that if you were a bad athlete and never reached your sports goals, then chances are, unfortunately your kids are going to end up on a similar path. Btw,our team didn't have a bunch of all stars either, just a good group of parents and an even better group of kids.

The nba playoffs are going great. We are winning 6 out of every 7 days!! Yes, you read that correctly. For those of you that say " but jack,I hate betting on the nba"or for that matter, those of you that have stocks, money market funds etc. and also bet on games, how would 9-1,8-1,8-1 feel the last 4 weeks? Think about it, a 100.00 player has made 2300.00 over the last month! I bet some of you could learn to like betting on the nba if you were seeing those kinds of numbers. Shoot, I would learn to love the wnba if it was paying me like that.

Jackson (my 10 year old son) and are leaving on our daddy trip today. This is one of my favorite weeks of the year. I have talked a lot about daddy trips over the years in this blog so I won't go back over it. I will tell you that this trip will take place on the fat n sassy 111 and may have some great moments. I promise to blog with anything that is interesting and if I happen to ground the boat,(but I won't) I promise to write while I am waiting on sea tow. I will have a bunch of days over the next month where we will be on the boat for 2 or 3 hours so I should have time to update you on our happenings. For those of you that say"jack, must be nice to have a yacht. Wish I had a boat like that." Remember, I offer to sell you my selections almost everyday for about 2.00 per selection so the way I see it,you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Enjoy your money market fund.

Have a good week and I will check in soon. Let me know if you want to get on board.

I am on my way back from vegas and the world series of poker. I had a great time but am ready to come home. The tournament was a lot of fun. I didn't play great but did well enough gambling with my opponents that I got 2nd in my "pod" that was good for 8500.00 so I was happy. Like a lot of things I was left wondering what might have been. The guy that beat me wasn't any better of a player than I and he went on to get 3rd in the whole event. That made him 75,000.00. That is a lot better than 8500. He was a great guy and I was happy to see he did so well. Here is how I got knocked out.
On number 14 I made a 10 foot birdie for 16k and knocked out the remaining player in our group. Over the next few holes, I got my total up to 21,000.00 my opponent had 29,000. On #17 ,a 520 yard par 5, the ante was 3600.00 each. I hit my drive apx 300 yards and had 220 in to the green. Kj had 260 in to the green. He bet 5,000.00 and I raised all in. He called. He layed up to about 100 yards and I decided to hit a 4 iron because I hadn't been hitting my irons great and was planning for a slight miss hit. As luck would have it, I hit my first 4 iron of the day on the screws and the ball hit about 3 feet from the hole and bounced over the green into a terrible spot. Kj hit is ball to about 25 feet. Remember,I need to at least tie the hole or I am done. I try and play a safer shot, so I can give myself a chance at birdie and at least be able to make par. The ball ends up just off the green about 30 feet from the hole. Kj then steps up and makes his 25 footer! Ouch!! I hit a great putt(for me) that hits half the hole and ends up 6 inches away. I hit it a little hard or it might have gone in. Oh well, I will get them next year. I will let you know when it is going to be on tv. They said 13 shows on wgn this summer so I should get some air time.

The rest of the trip was good. I took mrs fat jack to see the show love at the mirage. It is a must see if you are coming to vegas. In fact, go to joes stone crab in the forum shops at Caesars and then to love and I guarantee you a good evening.

Nba playoffs and the preakness this weekend. I can't wait to get home and see my kids.

Have a great weekend.

BACK FROM FLORIDA AND VEGAS ON MONDAY

Well, I am back from Florida. My meetings went really well and I am pretty confident I didn't get pig flu on the plane. Actually, I only saw 3 masks total! I had prepared my children that there were probably going to be people in Houston( at the airport) and in Florida that were wearing masks. I told them that there was a doctor convention and all of the doctors were showing off by wearing their masks in the airports and around town. Seriously, I called it pretty early on that everyone was over reacting about swine flu. The only people dying were in a city of like 5 gazillion people  ( Mexico City ) and babies and very old people.  Those categories die of lots of stuff every day! I bet if we added up the deaths each year by athletes foot each year, it will be more than swine flu. I bet if we add up the number of people that were trampled by an elephant each year, that number is also greater than PF(pig flu.) If you think about it, the pigs are getting a pretty raw deal in this whole thing. After all, pigs are awesome. They don't give us ANYTHING bad. Pigs are the inventor of Bacon for Gods sake! Nothing is better than that. There is no way an animal that produces something so awesome as bacon could be responsible for something that takes out a whole population. I am not a doctor but think about it.

I have decided that Tampa Bay is the best place in the world for new sayings. If I owned a T shirt company, I would have an office in Tampa. Every time I leave Tampa, I have seen a new saying that sticks with me. This time I saw..

1. On a Church billboard, it said   " stop, drop and roll wont work in Hell!"   Now if that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does.

then I saw, and feel free to steal this one..

2. A bumper sticker that said  "  who lit the fuse on your tampon? "   - WOW!  Now for everyone that is now highly offended, there are 10 people that are trying to figure out where they can work that in a conversation.

I think am just going to make up a shirt that simply says... SWINE FREE.

I think that might help a lot.

I leave Monday for the World Series of Golf.  Now, I am not playing great but I have had signs of getting it together. I shot 74 at a pretty hard course and then 80 at a shorter course that always seems to give me trouble. A lot like the handicapping contest last fall,(that I had the best national record in) I do feel like I am going to do well this week.   I will let you know.

My picks are going EXCELLENT!!  I have turned a profit the last 4 weeks, going 8-1 last week and am 6-1 this week so far. WE ARE HOT!!!  Not too late to get in on the NBA run and get the best prices of the year for fall football. We are going to have a huge season so don't miss out!!!!

I will check in from Vegas later this week. Happy Mothers Day.

SOME UPDATES AND CELEBRITY APPRENTICE

I am getting ready for my World Series of Golf debut and going to Florida for business and boat on Friday. All in all everything is going pretty well right now. Here are a few updates.

- I am playing golf about once a week and I keep threatening to go hit balls. Hopefully I will work in a couple of days at the range before the 11th. I played last week and started out birdie, birdie eagle. The eagle was a drive on a par 4 that I hit about 5 inches short of the hole! That is the good news. The bad news is that even after that great start I ended up shooting 76. OUCH!!  That means that after taking 4 shots from par on the first 3 holes, I lost 10 shots on the last 15 holes. Not good. Hopefully, I will get it figured out.

-I am going to Clearwater ,Fl on Friday. I am meeting with a radio station down there to try and convince them that my show is better than the stuff they are currently running. I was on in Tampa about 4 years ago but things have changed since then and frankly my show has gotten better. I am on in a lot of markets and pay a minimal amount for most and nothing for others. It is a win, win deal. They are able to sell my show to casinos, car dealers and restaurants and I am able to get new clients that want to make money betting on sports. Everyone wins!  I am also going to take the boat out for a couple of days with the family why I am there. the Kentucky Derby is Saturday so it ought to be a good weekend.

- Little league baseball is going good. The kids are getting A LOT better and having a lot of fun. We are winning a lot of games and the group of athletes that are on the team are looking a lot more like baseball players. It is fun to see the light com on in some of these kids heads and watch them start to figure out the game. We still are not as good as the kids that came out of the trailer and went straight to the diamond ,BUT we are getting closer. I have also been watching some of hte other 10 year old teams play and I promise you we are having more fun then they are. Honestly, I am amazed at the serious mood of some of these teams. I walked up the other day and one of the teams from our area was up to bat. One of the kids was yelling at his mom, one was whining at his coach and NOBODY  was smiling. When I asked one of the boys what the score was  he said " we are only up 4 runs."  GIVE ME A BREAK!  Lighten up people. We have had a couple of the boys on that team inquire about maybe moving over next season. I don't blame them, I would hate to  go to a grumpy, dusty baseball field every night and not have any fun.

-Celebrity Apprentice- Joan Rivers has lost her f***##* mind. I know Annie Duke a little and have played hours of poker with her. It is a fact she can be a strong headed bitch but Joan Rivers has lost it. I would love to see her next concert in Vegas. She might think about extra security. Poker players are a strange group and when Rivers went from attacking Duke to attacking all poker players, I  could feel all of those half drunk 2-4 hold em players planning their next move in regards to the rivers family. It would be like saying "all golfers are stuck up losers" . There are a lot of poker players and most will take offense to what she said. Let me retaliation begin.

I am now on Twitter. I am not 100 % positive what that means and I am sure I don't know how to tweet but I am going to learn and will start sending out Tweets sometime in May. If you want to follow me on twitter, I would love to have you. I think it is under the fat jack so get signed up. I will be sending boat updates throughout the summer and free winners once the football season starts. Should be fun .

We had another winning week in the NBA playoffs. We are up 10 games in the last 17 days and people are AGAIN making money. If you want to join us, I would love to get you signed up.

LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL, NBA PLAYOFFS AND MORE

Well, I haven't looked but I think it has been a couple of weeks since my last post. Like most people(parents) I have been very busy lately. As I look back it has been a bunch of little stuf that has been occupying my time...

1. NBA GETTING BACK ON TRACK- Most people know that after having a GREAT football season, my hoops selections have not been great. Now, there is no reason to jump off a house for my clients but most of them are use to really high returns in basketball. We made money in March after a really bad Feb. and April has also been good as we went 8-4 last week. Getting my selections back to a place that my clients and I are  use to has been a high priority and has taken some time and extra work. We are now doing good again and ready for a big playoff run.

2. LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL- My 10 year old is in his second season of baseball. I tell you this because baseball is one of the hardest sports to actually tell how your kids are progressing.I think he is coming along good. He is hitting the ball, playing first base and most important(for a 10 year old) having fun.  It is hard to tell where he stacks up with other kids his age because baseball has the biggest difference between the KIDS that have played a lot and those that are just starting out. Here is the problem. You have 2 kinds of parents/philosophies when it comes to little league baseball. First, you have the parents that for whatever reason, have their 10 year old in their 4th 5th or even 6th season of baseball. These parents, again, for whatever reason have had their kids playing little league baseball for most of their walking life. Although studies show that over 97 % of these kids that start playing baseball before 8 yrs old, will either end up getting hurt due to too much too early OR will simply burn out on the game and not play by the time they are even in high school, their parents are playing 15 to 20 league games and 2 to 10 tournaments / season and dont seem to care what the long term effects might be. The upside to this group is that by playing, sometimes 40 -50 games/year before they are 10, these kids are far advanced over the kids that are playing in their 4th or 5th game ever! And these parents ARE able to relive their unfulfilled youth thru their kids.
The second group are those parents that understand that TOO MUCH BASEBALL AT TOO YOUNG AN AGE LEADS TO INJURIES AND BURNOUT AT A VERY HIGH RATE. Unlike the first group of parents, this group consists of parents that either have ACTUALLY played baseball at a high level. (I have 4 friends that played in the major leagues and all of them agree with this blog opinion. ) or parents that don't care if their kid is ever really good at baseball. Find me a 10 year old baseball team that consists of mostly first or second year kids and I will show you a group of parents that are either REALLY athletic or smarter than most parents that dont care much about baseball.   This is the world we live in and it is taking some time for our kids to find their way but they are making strides and due to the good group of parents and the pretty well adjusted kids they are having fun while they are catching on to the game.  Don't get me wrong, I have friends, in fact very very good friends that are in the first group. They have spent every weekend for 5 or 6 summers at the baseball fields watching their 6 and 7 year olds try and chase down a title. They know how I feel and we just agree to disagree. It is like being an extreme Republican and having friends that are Obama lovers. You agree to disagree. It is ashamed that most of the parents in group one will spend most of their time now at the baseball fields but never be there when their kids are in high school while group 2 will most likely fill those high school bleachers.  I am pretty sure my son is not going to be a great baseball player but again, it is hard to tell just 12 games into his career.

Caytie Ross' 6 year old soccer team is on a 2 game skid. After getting off to a great start , scoring 5 goals in her first game of the season, and winning 3 in a row, we are now just 3-2. Now some of you may wonder why it is OK for my 6 year old to play soccer while I don't agree with 6 year old baseball. Well, their are about 100 reasons I feel this way but I guess the biggest is that I don't want my daughter to be any good at soccer!  My hope is the rule about too much too early WILL apply to soccer and she will hate the game before it matters. Have you ever met an actual soccer parent. It is one of the worse lives I can imagine. Soccer is painful to watch, they travel all over to boring cities that even if they were fun, you wouldn't get to do anything fun because you are knee deep in a soccer tournament. They play in all kinds of weather and think about it, if your kid is the best soccer player in the city, state or country you are rewarded, after years of following them around watching 1-0 barn burners, with them signing a contract with a team 1000s of miles away because nobody around here cares about soccer!!!
No thanks!

I am trying to play a little more golf. Most of you know that I have been invited to play in the World Series of Golf May 11-14 in Vegas. I found out this week that their will be 13 episodes of this event shown on CBS this summer. This has brought up the since of urgency on getting my game in shape. I did go out last week and shot 76 with a double so I am not as far behind as I thought. I will be trying to get out more over the next couple of weeks and then peak on May 11 th-14th. At least that is the plan.

WII FIT = WTF

My kids are like millions of kids everywhere in that they like video games. Other than a 6 month stint as a overnight Techmo Bowl guy in college, I have never really been into video games. My son got Wii Fit for his upcoming birthday and since I turned 39 last Thursday, I decided to go and check it out. Few will argue I could stand to lose a few LBS but most who have seen me in action will also tell you I am still pretty athletic for an old fat guy. I can still run a 10 minute mile, do 30 push ups, have a pretty good jump shot and can still hit a baseball and golf ball with just about anybody. So I feel like I am doing OK, not great but OK. Well, Wii Fit would beg to differ!! I signed up tonight in hopes to see where I ranked and maybe get on a program to lose a few pounds. After standing on the game board and doing some stupid balancing test, the Wii basically said I was going to die next week! the lady went on to say, she wasn't sure how I got out of bed each day and asked if I fell down a lot when I walked!! It DIDNT ask if I was athletic, if I could run a 10 minute mile or how my jump shot was. My BMI or BPI was off the chart!! AND it said I should be 54 years old and was weak!! Now, when I went up to play this "fitness game" I felt ok about my life and was ready to trim down a bit for swimsuit season but after being laughed at by Wii, I was sad and going to get some ice cream before I sat down to write out my last will and testiment. Just as I was getting ready to get some Carmel sauce and go into a deep depression, something dawned on me.. Wii Fit was not made in America. It was made in China or Japan by a group of 5' ,110lb china men that most likely eat a lot of rice and play speed golf for fun. A lot of small guys that were put into trash cans by future sumo wrestlers in high school. I am not sure these guys have the life experience to judge the quality of my physical makeup. Now, don't get me wrong, I am sure that if you just look at my numbers on a game board and my balance, my future may not look that bright but when you look at the whole me, you will see I am not a 500 lb ,54 year old that is living on deaths door! I am instead, a 39 year old pretty fat guy that can still bring it, in a lot of arenas and until that fades, I feel pretty good.
If you listen to the Fat Jack Sports Hour you know I have picked the last 4 NCAA Champions BEFORE March 5th. This is before the conference tournaments and well before the NCAA brackets are out. This season, I gave UCONN as the eventual winner and with 2 games to go I feel pretty good about my prediction. We just finished a nice week winning Thurs, Friday and Sat and pushing on Sunday. Hopefully this week goes just as well.
My father in law comes into town on Thursday night. He is the example of a guy that swims a mile each day, has a great BMI and I am sure the Chinese in the Wii game would love but he is still a douche and no matter how thin he gets will still not be a good looking or healthy person. There is a lot more to health than your BPI. Have a great week and good luck in the games.

SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO

I am back from Florida and am now the owner of the Fat and Sassy III. Now depending on how you look at it, that is either a good thing or a reason for concern. Most people that keep up with my boat know it has been a real love/hate relationship. Well, not any more. I took a class and that class, along with my ability to learn from my previous mistakes, is making this new boat a very happy experience. I drove the boat about 40 miles through a lot of tricky spots and didn't ground it even once! We had one close call but 0 calls to sea tow. That is a great start.
I was going to have a meeting in Vegas this weekend but at the last minute, decided not to go and postpone the meeting until early May. I did this because I just got back in town on Wednesday and had some work to do here but more important, both of my kids were supposed to have sporting events this weekend. My daughter, coming off her historic 5 goal performance in her first game of the season was going to have soccer both days and Jackson was going to have their pre-season baseball tournament. All of this combined, lead to my decision to stay in town. Then, I watched the news. If you turn on the news in Oklahoma today, you would quickly be convinced the world is going to come to an end this weekend. Apparently, the storm of the Century is on its way. We are going to have 25 feet of snow! Cats and dogs will begin to mate and have babies because of the brutal cold! There will be no food or water for weeks because the wind is going to blow the roofs off all of the stores and the crackers, can goods, etct are going to freeze! This is a huge event, if you watch the news. Because of this, sports are canceled and nothing is going to happen this weekend. I am thinking about taking the direct flight on Saturday and come back Tuesday. I could have my meetings and not have to sit here and listen to my kids tell me they are bored. Of course, if the news is correct, I might want to be around to see the carnage. Hard decision. I will let you know what I decide.
Oklahoma plays tonight is the NCAA tournament. We were 2-1 last night and Oklahoma -1 is one of my selections tongiht. It will give me something to watch with the kids.
Things are getting ready to get really busy. I have "The Fat Jack Hoops and Holdem "Poker Classic next weekend. My daughter has a dance performance and my jackass father-in-law is coming in to speak at OU. That ought to be AWESOME!
then
I am going to Phoenix for the Indian Gaming Convention to meet with a slot machine company about the Fat Jack, All American Gambler Machine.
then
more dancing, soccer and baseball with the kids
then May 11-14 The World Series of Golf in Vegas
and finding NBA and NCAA winners during all that time.
I will try and do better with my updates. Have a great weekend and stay ALIVE if you are living in the storm of the century. ..... Whatever.

DADDY TRIP AND CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS

I am in Florida on the second annual Caytie/Daddy trip. For those of you that are new to the blog, every year, I take each of my kids on a small vacation with just them and I. Normally, I take Caytie before spring break and Jackson after school gets out for the summer. I recommend this for any father out there that either wants to get to know their kid a little better or wants to create a memory that neither of you will ever forget. I dont think it matters at all where you take them, it is all about the idea it is just you and them. For them, it makes them feel like you are only there for them, and I promise you, it will force you to have a conversation with your kids that you might not have otherwise. When mom is there, she will almost always run interference for you, even if you only are with one kid. When it is just Caytie and I, and she says " I wonder what why Mickey and Minnie Mouse have never had kids?", you are the only one there to give the answer. We spent most of the day doing things that make her happy and after we came back so I could watch some of the games. I started to change the tv and she looked at me and said "daddy, turn it back to soccer, I want to see how THEY roll." I guess the fact her 6 year old soccer team is 1-0 gives her an opinion on what we watch. I explained why we care more about the Baylor score than how soccer people roll. She seemed to understand.

Last night we didnt get in until after midnight and the only thing that kept her awake is the fact I rented a "slug bug " for a rental car. I was hurrying to get to the house we are staying at and all the sudden I look up and a police car is behind me. I am sure they were profiling the very volatile combination on a fat guy and a 6 year old girl in a red convertible slug bug and decided to take us down. As the cop handed me the $245.00 ticket, I told him I was planning on having a huge week with the conference tournament games and didnt care about the ridiculous amount of the fine. Yes 51 in a 30 = $245.00, even in a slug bug. As I drove off I had no idea my punishment was just starting. Every time I pushed on the gas today my daughter said " daddy, the speed limit is 30 and you are going 31!" "daddy, the speed limit is 45 and you are going 47." After about 30 times, it becomes maddening! And again, I was the only one there to answer her.

We are making money almost every day over the last week and are looking for another huge March.

Go and hug your kids. Before you know it they will be grown up. I am the luckiest man in the world to be able to spend today with JUST my daughter. She is so special to me and I will never forget our trips. I love her sooo much and although I cant keep her 6 forever ( like I want to) I will always love and remember weeks  like this.  Good luck.

ONE OF THOSE DAYS

Today was one of those days that seems to come up every 6 months or so and only seems to happen to me. Now, keep in mind that I understand how this might make me look but I would just say that at least I have my child alive and I am not willing to give that up for better decision making abilities. Here is what happened...

There is a golf store in Norman that is going out of business and has slashed the prices on all of their clubs. I went in there on Monday and purchased a fairway wood that I thought might help me take my game to the next level. I have been invited to play in the World Series of Golf in Vegas coming up in May and I am trying to reignite my passion for the game. The weather is getting nicer but I haven't had a chance to go play and test out my new weapon so each day I go out into my front yard and swing the club.  Yesterday, I  saw a stray golf ball in the flower bed and thought about hitting it up the street. Now as I stood there looking up the street and thinking how I could pull this off without hitting anything, like any golfer faced with a big shot, I begin to size up the area.I live in a neighborhood that has streets lined with big houses worth somewhere around 700k and up. My neighbors are doctors, lawyers ect and am feel quite sure NONE of them would give me the green light on this shot. BUT.. as I stand there I really started seeing the shot and as time went on became very comfortable I could pull it off.  I went to sleep and thought more about it so when I got home this afternoon, I again reached in the trunk of my car and like Tiger Woods talking to his caddie, I asked for the 7 wood.  My wife had taken my son to the eye doctor , I was home with Caytie and it seemed like the perfect time to pull it off.  The plan was to hit the ball apx 200 yards up the street and where it intersected with another street, the ball would bounce on the concrete and go over the fence of the big house on the other side of the intersection and land harmlessly in their back yard.  I put the ball down in the front yard, told my 6 year old to keep the noise down and I approached the shot. I made sure the streets were clear and I took the club back, everything felt good until I got to the top of my back swing. As I started down, I paniced and thought I need to scale back the shot and only hit it 180 yards in the air. That doubt made me slow my downward swing and as Tiger could tell you, that is going to make you raise up as your club gets to the ball hit it thin!  The ball takes off about 5 feet off the ground like a missile out of a cannon! As it reaches the top of the street, a Chevy Yukon rounds the corner and my ball goes slamming into the front of the car making a sound as if someone had been shot at the top of the hill. The car swerved and went towards the neighbors yard and then regained control and headed down the hill where i was standing, 7 wood in hand. As the Yukon reached the end of the street, the window rolled down and the 17 year old son of one of my neighbors poked his head out. I stood there leaning on my new club and he looked at me in shock, neither of us choosing to speak. After about 10 seconds I said, " ah , words can not express how sorry I am for the events that just took place." I could tell you I thinned the shot and if I had stayed down, this would not have happened to you and for that, I am sorry." To my amazement, the kid said," no big deal. Not a problem. " Now, I am smart enough to know that even if it truly isn't a big deal to the 17 year old, it IS going to be a big deal to mom and dad. I followed him to his house and again tried to pay for the damage to his car but with neither of us being in the dent repair business, it was an awkward conversation. I feel like  Bobby Brady right after he broke the vase while playing catch in the house and I am trying to throw money at a high school kid that isn't sure what he is suppose to do! After all, I am suppose to be the adult!! I return home and as I am walking back to the house, my wife pulls up and asks what is going on, I simply respond, " well, there was an incident." After I regroup, I decide to go up to the place I would go to get my car fixed if some jackass hit a golf ball down the street and damaged my car. As I pulled up to the dent repair place, I look over and guess who is there getting an estimate on his car? None other than my 17 year old victim. Mom and dad apparently thought it was a bigger deal and told him to get an estimate. I got out and paid for the dent, a car detail and offered him some new rims. He declined and settled for the detail and repair.  I consider the matter closed and hope we both have a better Thursday.

I am having a tough run in hoops but am confident it will turn. I am still up on the season and am very excited about the tournaments next week.  Have a good week.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST DAY 1 COMPLETE

I spent most of the day yesterday at the Lucky Star Casino hosting the Fat Jacks Beauty and the Beast Poker tournament. this is one of the popular poker tournaments I put on for the casino. We had a great turnout last night and over 12,000 in prize money was given to the players. I played pretty well and was knocked out by what most would consider the best player in the event. His name is Doug and he is a tournament player that has had a lot of success in events around the country. For those of you that play PLO,here is how I was knocked out..

I had Ah-Qh-5s-6c                                         Doug had  Qc-Js-6s-7s

The flop came   Kh-9h-6d
Doug bets, I call.
The turn was a 7 of hearts giving me an Ace high Flush. Doug has 2 pair.
I check Doug bets and puts me all in. I of course call knowing that only 3 cards can beat me.Doug has to have either a 6 or a 7 to beat me and since he and I both hold some of those cards, we know there are only 3 that could possibly be left in the deck. We turn our cards over and the "best player in the event" says, "well Jack, you got me."" About this time the dealer turns over the 6 of hearts giving Doug one of the 3 cards he needed.

I am beginning to see how you become one of the best players in the tournament.  I have taken a bit of a break from poker because these type of things have been happening more ofter when I have played. Everyone gets bad beats but when you aren't surprised to see the 6 of hearts, that is time to take a break. Oh well, we have another event tonight and will give away a lot more money. If you are around Oklahoma and want something fun to do, come on out.

Have a great weekend. Jack

BACK FROM FLORIDA AND POKER THIS WEEKEND

I got back from Florida today where we finalized the details of the Fat and Sassy III purchase. I took a charts and navigation class and had a great weekend. the class reminded me a lot of my days in college, without the hot girls. I was sitting there listening to a lot of things I already knew and tried not to fall asleep. Then he started hitting on some things I didnt know and although I got some of the things he was saying I am sure I didnt get all I could out of the class. At one point, he asked my son and I if we understood how to find a "compass heading". I said I understood what he was saying, hoping he would move on to someone else. I am not sure if he thought we were pirates in the 1800s but I have a GPS machine on my boat and have no need to find compass headings.  My son then asked me if I really understood and I said " not one word son." The instructor heard me tell my son that and it was a rocky class from then on. I finally made up something and we left after about 2 hours. The truth is, I feel like I know about 80% of what I will need to be a good captain and I am going to learn the other 10 to 20 percent before we go on any long trips. All in all a good weekend.

The Fat Jacks Beauty and the Beast Poker tournament starts tomorrow at the Lucky Star Casino. I am excited about the events for a couple of reasons. 1. I haven't been playing a lot of poker lately and am ready to start playing a bit more and 2. The main event is a couples event.  these are the only tournaments that Mrs. Fat Jack attends. We never do well, mainly because she doesn't know anything about poker but we do have good snacks. She feels like, if you are not going to put out the effort to be good at poker then at least bring everyone something good to eat. The theory is great for everyone because everyone leaves full and we have no chance of winning. Oh well, it will still be a good weekend.
Little league basketball is wrapping up and we are getting ready to start 6 year old soccer and 9 year old baseball. Neither of which can go worse than hoops did so it should be a good spring. Dont get me wrong, I love our coaches and Jackson had a great time but we are going to have trouble winning many games only scoring 8 points/game.

I am also going to have to start playing more golf. I have been invited to play in the World Series of Golf. This is a golf event that is combined with poker rules. We play over the first weekend in May in Las Vegas and is aired on CBS in July. I have not been playing much golf but I dont want to make a fool of myself on TV so I am trying to get out and play a bit more.

We were 4-1 tonight in basketball and are going to have a big weekend. Let me know if you are going to be betting on the games.
