A WINNING WEEK AND SOME OTHER HANDICAPPERS

We are coming off a 7-3 week and another winner Monday night with the OVER. Things are going great and most of my clients are happy. I don't spend much time talking about other handicappers. This is on purpose. the fact is, there are 3 types of people that sell selections. Here is a quick lesson in what most of these services are about.

Type 1-  The "scam artist". Unfortunately, about 90% of all handicappers fall in this category. these are guys that can sell ice to an Eskimo. Have you ever had a vacuum salesman come to your door?  When you went to the door, you had already made up your mind, you were going to calmly and nicely tell the gentleman you didn't need a vacuum and then close the door. You open the door, start into your explanation as to why you will not be buying anything from him today. You explain how you don't need a vacuum, you dont want a vacuum and if you did, you would simply go to Lowes and buy one. Then something happens, you black out, only to come to while writing a $2000.00 check for your new Robinson 4000 Gl vacuum cleaner. Well, that salesman is also a handicapper. He sells you stuff you don't need by day and sells gamblers his losing picks by night.  The easiest way to spot these crooks , is to remember, if they were any good at picking games, they wouldn't be calling you. They would be busy and make plenty of money betting on their "so called" winners and wouldn't need to call you.

Type 2- the "honest loser"- The fact is, it is very hard to consistently pick winners against the spread. There are some companies that really want to be honest. they don't lie to their potential clients to get them to sign up. Instead, they charm them with stats and trends and other things that make for good radio. they tell you about a team that , when playing on the road, with their black uniforms, when their qb was named Charlie, when it was below 56 degrees, when playing a team with a cougar or puma as a mascot, hasn't lot in the last 56 years!!!  They present this in a southern charm way that makes you want to sign up and join this "good ole boy" in the winners circle. The problem is, the guy that goes with this approach hasn't HAD A WINNING SEASON IN 3 YEARS!!!  He was 2-8 2 weeks ago, he has had 2 different 5 STAR GAME OF THE MONTHS.. whatever the hell that is.. both were losers. He is very dangerous because, although you want him to win, he will take you all the way to the poor house. If you hear Greg Roberts on the air... RUN THE OTHER WAY!!! At least until he figures out how to win. I have gotten his selections for 4 years and am pulling for him. Unfortunately, I am still waiting for him to turn a profit.

Type 3- The Winner- Their are very few guys that fall into this category. the fact is, most of the guys that can turn a profit betting on games, don't sell their selections. I am asked all the time " Jack, if you can make money betting on the games, why do you need to sell me the picks?" I have always found this to be a strange question. My answer is, WHY NOT SELL THE SELECTIONS?  I am yet to find someone that can explain why it is a bad thing to sell my winning selections to other gamblers. I bet the games before the lines move, then I release the selections to guys all over the country and they pay me a small fee so they can make money too. Who is the loser there? I frankly don't know why more people that can win betting on the games don't do the same thing.  As I said I am not the only one that is in this category. I know of 2 others that also bet their selections and are pretty good at finding the winners.

Hope this helps if you are trying to decide to sign up. The fact, I know the 3 categories and know most of the handicappers that are in each of these groups, hopefully will help you make the correct decision  when looking for someone to help you pick winners.
